Position Description: Join a group of like-minded people in your community and make a difference to Queenslanders affected by cancer. Branch members meet on a monthly basis and work together to raise funds which enable us to invest in cancer research, prevention programs and patient support services. Have fun, make new friends and help us ensure no one goes on a cancer journey alone. Want to make a difference? Volunteer with us! The Branch Member is responsible for raising funds on behalf of Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) and promoting CCQ programs and services whilst making a difference in the fight against cancer! About us Medical research has successfully beaten most disease – it will beat cancer. Cancer Council Queensland is dedicated to eliminating cancer and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, treatment, patient care, prevention and early detection. About the role Branch Members raise funds on behalf of Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) and promoting CCQ programs and services. At monthly meetings, you'll work together to plan your next fundraising activity. Throughout the year, you'll run fundraising activities such as a cake stall, sausage sizzle, or sell raffle tickets. You'll also support CCQ's signature events like Australia's Biggest Morning Tea and Daffodil Day. About you The successful applicant will have the ability to work as part of a team, has great interpersonal and communications skills, and loves working in a dynamic environment. If you enjoy the flexibility of being involved in a variety of tasks, is highly organised and have a reliable persona, we’d love to hear from you! Benefits The Branch member will meet new people and contribute to cancer control in the local community. The volunteer will have the opportunity to participate in all CCQ volunteer activities: educational, social and informational. Purpose/Mission Statement: Cancer Council Queensland is the state’s leading anti-cancer organisation. Cancer Council Queensland was established in 1961 as the Queensland Cancer Fund, in response to a desperate need in the community. Cancer mortality was on the increase and available resources could not cope with the problem. A small group of concerned people decided to form the organisation and began planning a strategy for raising funds to combat the disease and provide adequate treatment facilities for cancer patients. Cancer Council Queensland is not government funded and relies solely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to continue its vital work in cancer research, patient support and education. Cancer Council Queensland began as a voluntary organisation and, although it now employs staff, it continues to rely heavily on volunteers and depends on public goodwill and support for its research, programs and services. Volunteers help Cancer Council Queensland to provide many programs, services and support critical to the Queensland community. Volunteers have roles in many areas supporting Cancer Council Queensland in its endeavour to minimise the impact of cancer on the community. Volunteer areas include adult education, administrative support, emotional support to patients, sewing, fundraising and much more.
